A Widow’s Watch
As women, we have a tendency to want to take control of the situation. I think it’s in our nature to want to take care of everyone. I learned during the 13 years of my husband’s illness to step back, as hard as it was for me to do so, especially being a nurse. I had to make a mental shift that I was not his nurse but his wife. As long as a loved one has the mental capacity to make their own decisions, we must not only allow them to do what they think is best, along with some guidance from us, and respect their decision even when we don’t agree.
